Zucchini Races at the 7th Annual Community Picnic

“No zucchini, no matter how outrageous, will be refused!” say the judges!

Two categories: kids and adults.
Each category is divided into two vehicle types: Integral (i.e. the vehicle would collapse if the zucchini was removed) and modified.
There is also an award for the most creative vehicle design.
Vehicles can be no more than 13” wide, and to win a prize, all the power must be supplied by the incline ramp.

Daystar Market — Adventures in the West Coast Whole Foods Movement - Conversations with Lony Rockafella - by Akasha Forest

In the summer of 1975, an experiment in alternative community living came to an end when Rawluk’s farm on Burrill Road was sold. Left behind were beautiful organic gardens, a woodworking shop, a main house and the small cabin-homes that had been restored by a group of young people with dreams of living simply and well, away from cities and rush hour. One of those young people now found himself reading tarot cards in a small mystical arts boutique on 4th avenue in Vancouver that summer.

Blackberry Festival - 2011

On October 8th the Galiano Club’s Blackberry Festival was held. For decades now, the Club has been holding a Blackberry Tea/Festival on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. No one seems to know exactly when it began, only that it is an island tradition. The Blackberry Tea is the main fundraiser of the Galiano Club. If anyone does remember when it began please contact us at 2175. We would love to be able to document the beginnings.
